Norwood is an 8,427 sq ft. development by same owners of Seldan Standard. Once an old theater space, later shoe mart, the retrofit into restaurant is located at Grand Boulevard and Woodward Avenue in Detroit, the project bridges two communities: New Center and Milwaukee Junction. Milwaukee Junctions is a small scale industrial and residential mix, New Center is a more densely inhabited commercial, institutional and residential neighborhood. Norwood re-establishes the commercial bridge between the two neighborhoods.
Norwood houses a lower price point wine bar in front and a rear fine dining restaurant, all accessed through the same street entry, a direct choice by the client to keep the space accessible for all. The second floor will house offices for the business. The aim of the design is to make the building accessible and open, busy during the day with management and at night during service. This space has multiple visual lines of connection front and back through the alley at the rear to help visitors feel situated in the neighborhoods around them. The series of volumes found within in the space allow for expansive views as visitors enjoy during dining experience.
